James Buhrmaster begins Kid's Nutrition Class
That's right.. James Buhrmaster of Buhrmaster Farms in Scotia, NY has begun his own nutrition class right at Quest. James is a fourth generation farmer who knows his produce and knows how to cook it too.
The Wednesday class began at about 4:15 when Quest's kids were asking questions such as, "What's all this for?" and "Can I try?" James came in with a giant tarp and laid it down, covering 1/3 of Quest's large floor. After the tarp came bounds of cardboard, paint, newspaper, paper mache, and brushes all ready to go. In an effort to both meet the kids and get nutrition started off in a fun, engaging way, participants created their own paper mache fruits and veggies.
James stated, "They were very enthusiastic about putting together fruits and vegetables and at the end they were able to answer questions about fruits and veggies and get a reward." The children ended the session swarming James as he began trivia with a box of farm-themed prizes which included erasers, arts and crafts kids, and goofy pens.
Future plans include Quest's own community garden, cooking, and healthy eating.
Nutrition program runs every Wednesday from 4:15pm-6:00pm
